Coucou!
I have *nearly* mastered defaulting to scroll Substack vs. Instagram when in need of a mindless loop (ideally these loops would be filled with something a bit more worthwhile … a girl can dream!) I have made it a goal of 2025 to be more intentional with the way I use social media. The time I am spending writing this is likely time my past self would have used doom scrolling year’s old my friend’s-sorority sister’s-cousin who I actually have met once’s-roommate on Instagram. I admire regular creators on Substack and dream that I will continue to see growth on this platform. I saw a note today that said “Instagram is the mall & Substack is the library,” and I found that to be quite profound. I am excited about the rise of Substack's popularity. It is exciting to see social media consumption becoming a catalyst for creative inspiration.
I have entered a new headspace for content creation. There have long been opposing forces in my head… as if someone is sitting on my shoulder telling me to *full send* on the content creation lifestyle, yet the other shoulder tells me to *just stop* and keep things to yourself. Unclear which one is the angel and devil like the TV shows love to utilize.
I have been in the midst of some self-reflection and self-discovery, partly because my business, MIMI by Miriam, has recently become my primary source of income. I plan to write on this journey in detail one day soon, but for now I often find myself telling people how hard it is to find adequate words for all this venture means to me. Via Grace Clarke’s 2025 Annual Planning Template (Linked Here), I have gained perspective on why I want to share my creative thoughts and processes.
My favorite song is “Be Cool” by Maggie Rogers. If I had to write a thesis (praise God I do not), I would write it about this song. I think we are all sick of the sound of self-importance that comes with social media. This can look incredibly different amongst different sectors, but the entire message behind social media is to speed up, impress strangers, and find some sense of importance in the things we deem worthy of sharing. I love this song because it pushes away from that narrative by slowing down, keeping your friends around, and just being cool. And that, dear readers, is my goal as I aim to be a little more consistent with sharing things online, both here and on Instagram.
I am thankful for my perspective, and I think it will be fun to get to share that with others. I listened to a great podcast (linked here) titled “How to Be a Niche Luxury Hot Girl,” and the title alone was enough to acquire a listen from me. I think the online space is moving towards individuality, intentional sharing, and creating content out of a place of wanting to let others in on the sunshine of life. The online space is too oversaturated with people sharing things to generate clicks/revenue/likes/etc. I hope to share things I truly love that you cannot put a price on (i.e., finding that perfect vintage lampshade, thoughts as I continue to *come of age*, traveling stories and tips) as well as my most-loved links (splurges and saves.. That’s the name of the game!)
I found myself pushing into a narrative I didn’t really align with. Being “cool” doesn’t mean keeping everything to yourself. I found a write-up a few months ago about what being cool means that saw a lot of engagement when I shared it on Instagram. I hope this narrative of “coolness” comes into this space & leaves you feeling inspired.
Promise I will be here to cover you with love … !
