I’ve spent the past month rethinking my Substack posting. Thankful for a full month of posting in October to remind myself if this is important to me, yet equally thankful for a month off of posting in November to gather and assess why writing (in whichever form it may take) is important to me.
With The Holiday on mute on my bedroom TV wrapped in my Lake Vintage Ski PJs … , I bring to you my first installment of my Month In Review: What I’m Loving, Learning, and Lavishing.
Loving –
– Meredith Hayden (@wishbonekitchen) and her active YouTube postings
– Reading before bed even though I switch between books quite often (and my nifty new LED Neck Light)
– Rising (just shortly after) the sun. Thankfully, I’m back in a more routine state of bedtime (aka before 10 pm) which makes my body naturally wake up a little before seven most days. I’m thankful for this because I’m able to see how much clearer my headspace is when I’m most aligned with my body’s natural rhythm.
– Thanks to discovering her via the cover of AD… Lauren Santo Domingo (@thelsd). Her interview with The Skinny Confidential is on my watchlist.
– The holiday business at KKBD and my work there in general. Our Mistletoe booth was one of the most rewarding experiences to be a part of from start to finish (truly… including some UHaul relocation on mine + Ellen’s part in the back lot of the MS Trade Mart). I’m so thankful for that experience of seeing something through beginning to end!
Learning –
– October was a month of “yes” and November was a month of “maybe not.” Hoping December can be a balance of both. Burnout is such a tricky fine line – and I often find myself in one of two extremes.
– Continually cleaning out my closet and beginning to understand minimalism. Allison Bornstein posted this insightful post that I shared to @mimibymiriam and it got quite a handful of story likers… which makes me think we are all curious about consuming less.
– Rome wasn’t built in a day. With a natural tendency to “get it off my desk, get it off my chest,” I have a tendency to rush through tasks. Watching my business develop gradually yet steadily has shown me the fruit that comes from being able to ease into things. This push against my norm has helped me grasp the gift of patience in all of life’s endeavors.
– “Faith is refined by refusal.” I was awestruck when I read this line yesterday! I loved it so and am holding it close.
Lavishing –
– Warm tea at night. I always fall into this habit during the colder months + there’s just nothing better.
– My new Sherpa Birkenstocks (still figuring out exactly when it is inappropriate to wear them due to their slipper-like nature.)
– Taking a candlelit bath.
– Styling product photos at work.
– My two new pairs of Lake PJs (ski + classic nightgown)
– Happy hour drinks shared across tables next to mixtures of new + old friends.. And seeing the way that all perfectly blends together.

Until Next Month … !
